Joe “Uncle Joe” Lopez is an elite Australian MMA coach, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and founder of Freestyle MMA, internationally recognised as the longtime head coach and mentor of UFC Champion Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski. Joe has been instrumental in one of the greatest journeys in modern MMA — helping develop Volkanovski from the Australian regional circuit into a UFC Featherweight World Champion, multiple-time title winner and the UFC’s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter. Behind that success is decades of martial arts knowledge, elite fight preparation, strategy and athlete development. Joe has built Freestyle MMA into a respected fight team while coaching and cornering athletes at the highest levels of professional competition. Known throughout the sport as “Uncle Joe,” his legacy extends far beyond his own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
